As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier with Canada Post, you’ll be out on the road delivering essential mail and parcels to local residents and businesses. Day to day, you’ll sort mail, follow designated delivery routes, and build familiarity with the local roads, customers, and delivery points in your area. This role calls for someone who takes pride in doing things right — from safely securing mail in your possession to wearing your Canada Post identification visibly at all times.

Working on an on-call basis means flexibility is key. You’ll need to be ready to step in when called upon and handle a variety of Canada Post products and services, including processing Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail items, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). Physical readiness is also important, as you’ll be expected to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of your regular duties.

Responsibilities

In this on-call role, your primary focus will be ensuring that mail and parcels are delivered accurately and on time to rural and suburban communities in and around Williams Lake. Each day on the road requires attention to detail, safe vehicle operation, and a solid understanding of your delivery area. Here’s what the role involves:

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles within your service area
• Secure all mail safely in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions throughout your shift

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Vehicle cargo capacity of a minimum 100 cu ft (2,832 litres), with a metal roof-top and accessory power outlet to accommodate a Canada Post sign and flashing light
• Fifth door or hatchback on your vehicle is preferred to accommodate oversized and bulky items
• Automobile liability insurance covering the use of your vehicle for Canada Post deliveries — you must notify your insurer of this use
• Experience delivering and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Reside within 75 km of the Williams Lake Post Office — preference is given to applicants within this area
