About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

In this position, your primary responsibility is to sort, collect, and deliver mail safely and on time to rural and suburban addresses in the Valcourt area. You’ll need to build and maintain solid knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery points. Every day on the job, you’ll represent Canada Post while wearing your Canada Post identification and ensuring it’s visible throughout your route.

This role comes with physical demands — you’ll be lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) regularly. You’ll also be responsible for processing various Canada Post products and services, from Change of Address Notifications to Damaged Mail handling. Safe driving practices and attention to postal procedures are non-negotiable in this position. A key note: this is a French Essential role, so proficiency in French is required.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day, this role centres on reliable mail delivery across rural and suburban routes in Valcourt. You’ll handle everything from sorting to delivering, ensuring every parcel and letter reaches its destination safely and on schedule. Here’s what you’ll be doing on the job:

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner along assigned routes
• Build and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure mail and ensure it remains protected while in your possession throughout the route
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of daily duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions
• Maintain required automobile liability insurance and notify your insurer of your vehicle’s use while employed at Canada Post

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this on-call mail carrier role is organized, self-reliant, and comfortable working in variable conditions. • Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varying weather and traffic conditions
• French language proficiency — French Essential is a firm requirement for this position
• Eligible vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory requirements, including minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 L), automatic transmission, power windows, a metal rooftop with accessory power outlet, and passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground
• Residence within 75 km of the Valcourt Post Office is preferred
