About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, you’ll be responsible for sorting, collecting, and delivering mail safely and on time. You’ll build knowledge of local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles while representing Canada Post professionally on every route you cover.

This role comes with real responsibility — you’ll handle mail security, process various Canada Post products and services, and wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times. Working in a safety-sensitive environment, you’ll be expected to follow policies and procedures consistently, including those related to vehicle operation and substance use.

Responsibilities

Each day as a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier involves hands-on delivery work across local routes, requiring both physical readiness and attention to detail. Your ability to stay organized and represent Canada Post professionally ensures communities receive their mail accurately and on time.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and within required timeframes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this role is dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable operating a vehicle independently in varying conditions. Canada Post values candidates who take safety seriously and are committed to serving their communities with professionalism.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence – Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record – a driver’s abstract will be required
• Vehicle with minimum cargo capacity of 100 cu ft (2,832 litres), a metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and preferably a fifth door or hatchback
• Automobile liability insurance covering the use of your personal vehicle for Canada Post duties (and notification to your insurer)
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Applicants residing within 75 km of the post office where this position is based are preferred
