About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief mail carrier, your primary responsibility is to sort, collect, and deliver mail and parcels safely and on time to rural and suburban customers. You’ll navigate local roads in all kinds of Canadian weather, bringing parcels and correspondence to homes and businesses that depend on you. Familiarity with the local road network and customer delivery points is key to doing this job well.

Beyond the drive, you’ll also process Canada Post products and services such as Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). You’ll represent Canada Post directly to the public, so professional conduct and visible identification while on delivery are important parts of the role. This is a safety-sensitive position, and adherence to Canada Post’s substance use policy is required.

Responsibilities

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in your service area
• Secure mail items properly at all times while in your possession
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is a dependable, self-motivated individual who is comfortable driving independently across rural routes. Since this position involves direct interaction with the public and safe vehicle operation, Canada Post places a strong emphasis on driving record, professionalism, and vehicle readiness.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Appropriate personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s cargo capacity and equipment requirements (minimum 50 cu ft / 1415 L cargo space, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, automatic transmission, power windows)
• Valid automobile liability insurance covering use of vehicle for Canada Post deliveries
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• French language proficiency — French is essential for this position
• Applicants residing within 75 km of the Saint-Boniface Post Office are preferred
