About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief carrier, your day revolves around the safe and timely sorting, collecting, and delivery of mail across rural and suburban routes in and around Cowansville. You’ll need to develop a solid knowledge of local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles to carry out your routes efficiently. Wearing your Canada Post identification while on delivery is required at all times.

The role also involves processing a range of Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). You’ll be expected to ensure mail is always securely in your possession during delivery, and to maintain professionalism on the road at all times — including the physical handling of items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg).

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Ensure mail security at all times — all items must remain safely in your possession during delivery
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification clearly while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of regular delivery duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely across various weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions
• French language proficiency — French is essential for this position
• Eligible vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory requirements: minimum 50 cu ft cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof with accessory power outlet, window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground, and maximum interior width of 56″
• Automobile liability insurance and notification to your insurer of vehicle use for Canada Post delivery
• Preference given to applicants residing within 75 km of the Cowansville Post Office
