The open road can be your office. Canada Post is looking for a dependable and organized individual to join their team in Boisbriand, QC as an On-call Relief Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier. This is a role for someone who thrives working independently, behind the wheel, and out in the community — rain, shine, or snow.

As an on-call employee, you’ll be called upon to step in and keep mail moving when regular carriers are unavailable. You’ll be sorting, collecting, and delivering mail across rural and suburban routes, building familiarity with local roads and communities as you go. Beyond the day-to-day deliveries, this position can serve as a stepping stone — on-call employees may be eligible to apply for upcoming permanent Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier positions with Canada Post.

About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

This position places you at the centre of community connection. You’ll be responsible for the safe and timely sorting and delivery of mail items across assigned routes in and around Boisbriand. You’ll need to get to know the local infrastructure — roads, customers, and delivery receptacles — and handle a variety of Canada Post products and services throughout your shift.

Because this is a safety-sensitive role, operating your vehicle responsibly in all weather and traffic conditions is a core expectation. You’ll wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery and will be expected to meet all vehicle requirements set out by Canada Post. The job demands physical readiness too — you’ll be lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of your regular duties.

Responsibilities

Each day as an on-call relief carrier brings a mix of preparation and action — from sorting mail at the post office to navigating your route efficiently in the field. • Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on time across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in the Boisbriand area
• Secure all mail items in your possession and ensure they are handled appropriately throughout the delivery process
• Process various Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of regular delivery duties
• Operate your motor vehicle safely and professionally in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence (Class 5 or G) is required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Access to a personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory requirements: minimum 100 cu ft (2,832 litres) cargo capacity, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for commercial use of your vehicle, including notifying your insurer of Canada Post employment
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Physical fitness to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) regularly
• Residency within 75 km of the Boisbriand Post Office is preferred
• Ability to work in English or French (either language is acceptable)
