Day to day, this role is about sorting, collecting, and delivering mail safely and on schedule to communities in and around Amqui. You’ll need to know your routes well, handle a variety of Canada Post products and services, and bring your own properly equipped vehicle to the job.

About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As a relief carrier, you’ll be called in on an as-needed basis to cover routes across the region. That means being organized, reliable, and ready to hit the road. You’ll be responsible for sorting and delivering mail items in a safe and timely manner, maintaining a working knowledge of local roads and delivery points, and processing a range of Canada Post products including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail items, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

Safety and professionalism are central to this position. You’ll be required to wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery, maintain the security of mail in your possession, and operate your vehicle according to all applicable road safety standards. The ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) is also part of the job.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly during all deliveries and customer interactions
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in doing reliable, independent work and can handle the physical and logistical demands of a delivery route. French language proficiency is essential for this position, as the role is based in a French-speaking community. Canada Post gives preference to applicants residing within 75 km of the Amqui post office.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Access to a suitable vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance covering vehicle use for Canada Post deliveries
• Experience making deliveries or operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• French language skills — French is essential for this role
• Physical ability to lift and carry packages up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
