About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (On-call Relief)

In this role, you’ll be out on the road each day sorting, collecting, and delivering mail safely and on time. You’ll get to know your delivery routes inside and out — from local roads and customer addresses to delivery receptacles and community infrastructure. It’s a role that combines independence with responsibility.

You’ll also be expected to represent Canada Post professionally by wearing your Canada Post identification at all times during delivery. Handling Canada Post products and services such as Change of Address Notifications and Damaged Mail processing will be part of your routine. Safety and accuracy are central to everything you do in this position.

Responsibilities

Each day as an on-call Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, you’ll be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of mail across your assigned routes. These responsibilities require attention to detail, physical capability, and a strong commitment to customer service and safety standards.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on time across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local infrastructure including roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times during delivery
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
• Operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions safely and responsibly

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in doing their job well and can handle the demands of an outdoor, independent delivery role. Canada Post values reliability, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to safe driving practices.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required
• Suitable personal vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), a metal rooftop, accessory power outlet, and preferably a fifth door/hatchback
• Automobile liability insurance for use of your vehicle while employed, with notification to your insurer
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied conditions
• French language proficiency — French Essential for this location
• Applicants residing within 75 km of the Saint-Nicolas Post Office are preferred
