About the Role: Postal Clerk – Retail and Operations

Physical readiness is part of the job — you’ll be required to stand for extended periods and handle mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs). Responsibilities
Day to day, a Postal Clerk at Canada Post juggles both customer-facing and back-end operational tasks. Whether you’re helping someone at the counter, processing a payment, or sorting incoming mail, your work directly supports the smooth flow of mail and retail services in the Hearst community.
- Deliver customer service by performing a variety of sales and service activities to ensure complete customer satisfaction
- Operate a point of sale system to process transactions accurately and efficiently
- Process financial transactions including cash, cheques, debit, and credit card payments
- Maintain floor displays and conduct merchandising and inventory control
- Sort, sequence, and batch mail items accurately for distribution
- Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines where applicable
- Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment where applicable
- Review mail items for address accuracy, proper postage, and other requirements
- Enter data via computer systems as required
Requirements / Skills
Canada Post is looking for a candidate who can handle both public-facing service and physical operational tasks with equal care. The ideal person is bilingual (English and French), comfortable in a fast-paced retail or production environment, and flexible enough to work varying shifts throughout the week.
- Bilingual proficiency — this position has a Bilingual Imperative language requirement (–BB)
- Customer service experience in a retail environment is required
- Sales experience is considered an asset
- Production environment experience is an asset
- Physical capability to stand for up to 3.5 hours at a time and handle mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs)
