As a Post Office Assistant, your primary responsibility is to deliver reliable, friendly counter service to the business community and the general public. Responsibilities
Working at the post office counter means wearing several hats throughout a shift. As a Post Office Assistant, you’ll handle everything from retail sales of postal products to sorting incoming mail and supporting customers with their enquiries. Each task plays an important role in keeping the community connected through Canada’s postal network.
- Sell postal products and services to members of the public and local businesses at the counter
- Sort, distribute, and process mail into the appropriate classifications accurately and efficiently
- Provide customers with relevant information, forms, and guidance for their postal needs
- Resolve delivery and service difficulties thoroughly and in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction
- Handle cash transactions and apply basic understanding of post office accounting systems
- Physically handle mail containers weighing up to 50 lb, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and sorting
- Remain available on-call to cover shifts across multiple post offices in the Lac-des-Aigles area
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable in a customer-facing retail environment, can handle the physical demands of mail processing, and speaks French as this is a French Essential position. - High school diploma or provincial equivalency, and/or experience in business administration
- Experience in a retail or service environment, including sales and cash transactions
- French language proficiency — French is essential for this role
- Understanding of general or post office accounting systems
- Physical fitness to lift up to 50 lb, push/pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods
- Flexibility and availability for temporary, on-call work as required
- Preference given to residents of the local community; local residency is considered an asset
