About the Role: Post Office Assistant – Term

As a Post Office Assistant, your day-to-day will centre on delivering excellent counter service to customers in Cap-Chat and surrounding post offices including Capucins, Tourelle, Les Méchins, Sainte-Félicité, Grosses-Roches, and Saint-Jean-de-Cherbourg. You’ll handle mail sorting and distribution, process transactions, and make sure customers leave with the information and help they need.

This is an on-call, term position, so flexibility is key. You’ll need to be physically capable of handling mail containers and comfortable working in a retail and service environment. Note that Canada Post prefers candidates who reside within the community the post office serves, though applicants from outside the area may be considered as needed.

Responsibilities

Working at a Canada Post counter means you’re the face of the organization for many customers in your community. Your responsibilities will span sales, mail handling, customer service, and problem resolution — making every shift varied and meaningful.

  • Sell postal products and services to members of the public and local businesses
  • Sort, distribute, and process incoming and outgoing mail into the appropriate classifications
  • Provide customers with relevant information, postal forms, and guidance on available services
  • Resolve delivery and service difficulties thoroughly and in a timely manner
  • Handle cash transactions and maintain accurate records in line with post office accounting systems
  • Serve multiple post office locations across the Cap-Chat region on an as-needed, on-call basis

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for a candidate with a customer-first mindset, a solid work ethic, and the physical ability to handle the demands of a mail processing environment. French language skills are essential for this position, given the region served.

  • High school diploma or provincial equivalency and/or relevant experience in business administration
  • Experience interacting with the public in a retail or service environment, including sales and cash handling
  • Understanding of general accounting or post office accounting systems
  • Physical fitness to lift mail containers of up to 50 lbs, push or pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods
  • Flexibility to be available for on-call, temporary work as required
  • French language proficiency — French is an essential requirement for this role
