Pharmacy Student – Costco – Burnaby, BC

About the Role: Pharmacy Student

Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you’ll assist with all aspects of the dispensing workflow — from prescription order entry to packaging and compounding. You’ll also support expanded scope activities such as Health Promotion Clinics and medication review services, giving you exposure to a broad range of pharmacy practice areas.

Patient interaction is a key part of this role. You’ll assist members at the counter, communicate clearly about OTC products, and provide prescription counselling in line with your clinical knowledge and provincial regulations — always with pharmacist oversight. Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Student at Costco Burnaby, your day-to-day will cover a wide range of pharmacy support tasks. From answering member phone calls to assisting with medication review programs and health clinics, you’ll be an integral part of the pharmacy team under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist.

• Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to product locations
• Collect patient information and input prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy software system under pharmacist supervision
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labelling under the pharmacist’s supervision, following all safety and security procedures
• Alert the pharmacist when necessary, such as in cases of drug interactions or patient concerns
• Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions with prompt and courteous service
• Communicate with patients regarding OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
• Provide prescription counselling and education under the direction of the pharmacist, based on competency level and provincial regulations
• Identify and recruit patients eligible for the medication review program and assist the pharmacist in delivering these services
• Support Health Promotion Clinics by working with the pharmacist to develop and implement recruitment plans
• Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help keep the pharmacy clean and well organized
• Comply with provincial regulations regarding the pharmacy student role and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
