About the Role: Tire Installer

As a Tire Installer at Costco Burnaby, your core responsibility is to perform professional tire installation, balancing, rotation, and repair services in accordance with industry standards. You’ll operate hydraulic hoists, impact guns, mounting machines, and wheel balancers on a daily basis. You’ll also fill tires with nitrogen to appropriate pressure, attach wheel weights, and reset TPMS sensors using Costco-supplied tools.

Beyond the technical work, you’ll interact directly with members — answering questions, making product recommendations using the 5 steps of selling, and providing prompt and courteous service at the counter, over the phone, and by email. You’ll also assist with stocking and organizing tires on the sales floor, processing payments, and calculating warranty refunds. At propane-equipped locations, provincially certified installers may also fill propane tanks following all required safety procedures.

Responsibilities

A typical day in the Tire Centre involves a mix of vehicle service work and member-facing tasks. You’ll move between the install bay and the sales floor, keeping things running smoothly while maintaining strict adherence to Tire Industry Association (TIA) and American Lift Institute standards. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll be doing:

  • Install and balance tires using mounting machines, wheel balancers, and impact guns in compliance with TIA R.I.S.T. Standards
  • Operate hydraulic hoists to raise vehicles safely according to American Lift Institute guidelines
  • Reset TPMS sensors and install valve stems or service packs as required
  • Perform flat tire repairs for members in accordance with Tire Industry Standards
  • Complete 40KM torque checks and alert supervisors to authorize vehicle release
  • Assist members with tire selection, answer questions, and make product recommendations using persuasive selling skills
  • Process payments, create invoices, handle cash, cheques, credit, and debit transactions accurately
  • Stock and organize tires on the sales floor according to the Tire Centre manager’s merchandising plan
  • Clean the install and sales area through regular sweeping, mopping, spraying, and wiping
  • Communicate with buyers and inventory staff regarding special orders, pricing, delivery, and promotions
  • Assist with propane refills at applicable locations once provincially certified
