About the Role

As a Maintenance Journeyman (Millwright), you will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of UPS’s sorting facilities. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, conveyor belts, and electrical equipment. The role involves hands-on work in a fast-paced, industrial environment where safety and operational efficiency are of utmost importance.

Workdays will be determined by seniority and may include shifts such as Monday-Friday, Sunday-Thursday, or Tuesday-Saturday. Flexibility is required as shift hours may vary based on seniority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical components such as motors, drive chains, and conveyor belts.
  • Troubleshoot and replace AC/DC electrical equipment including fuses, relays, and switches.
  • Maintain pneumatic and hydraulic equipment such as air compressors and flow splitters.
  • Perform welding on various equipment including handrails and conveyor supports.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on conveyor belts and other plant equipment.

Basic Qualifications

UPS requires the following basic qualifications for the Maintenance Journeyman (Millwright) role:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Valid 5760 Industrial Construction and Maintenance Mechanic or 5781 Automated Systems Electromechanic Certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience in industrial equipment maintenance.
  • Proficiency in communicating via radio in an industrial environment.
  • French language skills required: 90% French / 10% English.

Preferred Qualifications

UPS prefers candidates who also possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in conveyor belt maintenance.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and building schematics.
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills.

Compensation & Benefits

UPS offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Starting pay rate of $30.00/hour with opportunities for overtime.
  • Weekly pay (every Friday).
  • Automatic pay progression as per the existing Union Collective Agreement.
