As a postal clerk, you’ll work inside a sorting facility, handling mail items through scanning, sequencing, batching, and dispatching, with shifts that may include evenings, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

Whether you’re out on a delivery route or working inside a postal facility, your work directly connects Canadians with each other and with businesses across the country. These responsibilities reflect the dual nature of this role — combining outdoor delivery work and indoor mail processing depending on operational needs.

  • Sort and prepare the day’s mail and parcel deliveries at the depot before heading out on route
  • Load and operate a Canada Post postal vehicle safely and responsibly
  • Deliver mail and packages by foot or vehicle to residential and business customers along your assigned route
  • Unload incoming mail and packages upon returning to the depot for later delivery processing
  • Sort, scan, sequence, and batch mail items within a sorting facility as a postal clerk
  • Operate material handling equipment and assist with receiving and accepting mail items
  • Transfer and dispatch parcels and packets as required
  • Complete reports and documentation accurately as part of daily postal clerk duties

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for dependable, physically capable individuals who are comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and can commit to an on-call schedule. A clean driving record and the ability to handle packages of varying weight are essential to succeeding in this role.

  • Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence with a safe driving record for at least 3 years (driver’s abstract required)
  • Physical ability to lift items up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) and carry items up to 15.9 kg (35 lb) throughout the day
  • Availability to be on-call, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions year-round
  • Communication skills in English and/or French (French Essential for this location)
  • Customer service experience is an asset
