Right now, Canada Post is looking for two Letter Carriers (Delivery Agent 1) to join their team in Port-Cartier, QC on a temporary, on-call basis. As a delivery agent, you’ll be the face of Canada Post in Port-Cartier — sorting mail at the depot in the morning, loading up a Canada Post postal vehicle, and spending the bulk of your day out on your route delivering mail and parcels to residents and businesses. It’s physical, hands-on work that puts you outside regardless of the season.

About the Role: Letter Carrier – Delivery Agent 1

Each day starts at the depot where you’ll sort and prepare deliveries, then load your vehicle before heading out on your assigned route. Deliveries are made both on foot and by vehicle, and you’ll cover significant ground — the walking distance can reach 20 to 25 km per day, through all weather conditions including stairs, snow, rain, and sun. At the end of your shift, you return to the depot to unload incoming parcels for later delivery.

This is an on-call, temporary position with no guaranteed hours. You must be available Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and ready to be called in on short notice — sometimes the same day. Responsibilities

• Sort and prepare the day’s mail and parcel deliveries at the depot each morning
• Load and drive a Canada Post postal vehicle along your assigned route
• Deliver mail and packages to residential and business customers by foot or vehicle, covering up to 20–25 km daily
• Work in all weather conditions including snow, rain, and extreme temperatures
• Return to the depot at the end of the day to unload incoming mail and parcels for future delivery
• Respond to on-call requests on short notice, including same-day call-ins

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for candidates who are physically capable, dependable, and comfortable working independently in an outdoor setting. A clean driving record and the ability to handle heavy items are essential for this role, along with a genuine commitment to serving the community.

• Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence with a safe driving record of at least 3 years (driver’s abstract required)
• Physical ability to lift mail items up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) and carry items up to 15.9 kg (35 lb) regularly throughout the day
• Availability to work on-call, Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with potential for same-day notice
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
• French language proficiency is essential (French Essential designation); English and/or French reading, writing, and speaking ability required
• Experience in customer service or delivery/driving roles is an asset
