AI/ML Architect, Public Sector Professional Services – Amazon – Toronto, ON

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring an AI/ML Architect for its Public Sector Professional Services team, with positions available in both Toronto and Ottawa, Ontario. This is a senior technical role for someone who thrives at the intersection of cutting-edge machine learning, Generative AI, and real-world impact — specifically in supporting Canadian public sector clients.

This isn’t a purely internal-facing role. As an AI/ML Architect, you’ll be working directly with public sector customers to understand their challenges, design ML and GenAI solutions, and see those projects through from concept to production. About the Role: AI/ML Architect, Public Sector Professional Services

The AI/ML Architect within AWS Professional Services works closely with public sector clients to identify their business and operational challenges and build tailored solutions using ML, GenAI, and AWS cloud services. You’ll be involved in every phase — from initial discovery and exploratory data analysis through to deployment and customer training. This means your work directly shapes how government and public institutions innovate with cloud technology.

Collaboration is core to this position. You’ll work alongside ML Engineers, Cloud Architects, and Application Developers to bring solutions to a production-ready level. You’ll also engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from technical leads to executives, ensuring solutions are both technically sound and strategically aligned. A working knowledge of tools like Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Amazon AgentCore, Git, Docker, and frameworks such as PyTorch and Transformers will be essential to your day-to-day work.

Benefits and Salary

This role offers an annual base salary in the range of $99,900 to $166,900 CAD, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. Beyond base pay, Amazon’s total compensation package may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Responsibilities

As an AI/ML Architect with AWS Professional Services, your day-to-day work centres on understanding customer needs and translating them into deployable, production-grade machine learning and Generative AI solutions. You’ll balance technical depth with client-facing communication, ensuring that what you build aligns with both business goals and operational realities in the Canadian public sector.

• Assess and structure customer business challenges, converting them into well-defined business and IT requirements
• Identify and select candidate AI/ML services and algorithms suited to each customer’s specific needs
• Design architectures that combine the appropriate AWS services to achieve customer objectives
• Lead ML and GenAI projects end-to-end, from exploratory data analysis through to validation, deployment, and customer training
• Provide technical sales support during pre-engagement phases, helping customers understand the value of ML-based solutions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including ML Engineers, Cloud Architects, and Application Developers to bring solutions to production
• Work with AWS tools and frameworks such as Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, AgentCore, Git, Docker, PyTorch, Transformers, and Strands-Agents

Requirements / Skills

This role is best suited for a senior ML practitioner who combines hands-on technical expertise with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and business stakeholders. AWS values diverse career paths, so even if your background doesn’t follow a traditional route, your experience and problem-solving approach matter.

• 5+ years of experience as a data scientist or ML Engineer, including building ML models and GenAI systems
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
• Experience with AWS or cloud technologies is required
• Ability to obtain Canadian federal security clearance, or possession of a valid Secret or Top Secret clearance
• Experience with MLOps systems — bringing models to production and managing data science development environments is a strong asset
• Consulting or customer-facing experience, including working with both executive and engineering stakeholders on AI/GenAI initiatives
• Knowledge of data governance principles, data consumption, visualization, and reporting practices is an asset
