About the Role: Tire Installer
As a Tire Installer at Costco St. John’s, you’ll be responsible for the full cycle of tire centre operations. Responsibilities
This role covers a wide range of tasks across tire installation, member service, and Tire Centre operations. You’ll move between mechanical work and customer-facing duties throughout your shift, so adaptability and efficiency are key to performing well in this position.
- Mount and balance tires using mounting machines and wheel balancers, attaching wheel weights to ensure proper balance
- Drive member vehicles into the install bay, raise them using hydraulic hoists according to American Lift Institute standards, and return them to the lot after service
- Reset and relearn TPMS sensors using Costco-supplied tools as required after tire installation
- Repair flat tires for members following Tire Industry Standards and perform 40KM torque checks as needed
- Process tire sales and service invoices, handle payments (cash, cheque, credit/debit), and calculate warranty refunds for tires and auto batteries
- Assist members in selecting the right tires using product knowledge and persuasive selling techniques
- Stock and organize tires on the sales floor in accordance with the Tire Centre manager’s merchandising plan
- Communicate with buyers, receiving, and inventory departments regarding special orders, pricing, delivery, and promotions
- Maintain cleanliness of the install and sales areas by sweeping, mopping, spraying, and wiping throughout the shift
- Assist with propane refills (once provincially certified) following all applicable safety procedures and guidelines
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for candidates who are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced physical environment. Prior experience in the tire industry is a definite advantage, and the ability to interact professionally with members is equally important in this role.
- Valid driver’s licence is required to operate member vehicles within the Tire Centre
- Must pass the Costco Tire certification test — training will be provided for qualified candidates
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred for this position
- Previous tire installation or tire sales experience is preferred and will be given priority consideration
- Propane certification (provincial PP0-3 and TDG Certification from PTI 100-11 program) required for propane-related duties at applicable locations
- Strong communication skills to answer member inquiries, provide price quotes by phone and in person, and coordinate with internal departments
