Responsibilities
Day-to-day, a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco juggles a wide range of duties — from dispensing medications to assisting members at the counter. These responsibilities require both technical precision and strong member service skills to keep the pharmacy running at its best.
- Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions, and retrieve filled prescriptions for members
- Process register transactions including payment, change, cheques, and credit/debit charges
- Maintain patient records by obtaining medical history and updating profiles in the pharmacy computer system, in accordance with provincial regulations
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications into appropriate containers, labelling, and pricing under pharmacist supervision
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed for therapeutic appropriateness by the pharmacist
- Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions in both prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and take verbal prescriptions as permitted by provincial regulations
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and record accounting entries using the computerized system
- Order, receive, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and over-the-counter products, following product storage procedures and merchandising plans
- Maintain department cleanliness and perform stocking duties including OTC roaming and product signage creation
Requirements / Skills
Costco is seeking candidates who are fully credentialled and in good standing as Pharmacy Technicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. The ideal person brings a strong mix of technical accuracy, computer proficiency, and genuine care for patient service.
- Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification — completed either through a Community College program or the equivalent
