Your drafting work will feed directly into production-line test equipment built alongside product design and manufacturing teams.

About the Role: Manufacturing Electrical Drafter

Day to day, you’ll create and maintain electrical schematics and panel layout drawings in EPLAN or AutoCAD, following national codes and standards including UL508A, NFPA79, and NEC for both power and control circuits. You’ll also assist engineers with redline updates and panel layout tasks.

A significant part of the work involves building out EPLAN macros and parts for the internal standard parts list, with close attention to detail to match physical wiring requirements and internal standards. You’ll also specify wire and cable colour and sizing per applicable standards such as UL508A.

Managing bills of material (BOMs) is another core responsibility, covering electrical cabinets, field wiring, and pneumatics to make sure every build goes together correctly. The posting notes that candidates who are motivated to learn and carry responsibility in a fast-paced environment will do well in this group.

Job Summary & Tips for Applying

AI-generated summary and tips to help you highlight your strengths effectively.

Quick Summary & What to Highlight: The Manufacturing Electrical Drafter position at Tesla in Richmond Hill involves creating electrical schematics and panel layouts for automated test equipment used on production lines worldwide. Candidates should put EPLAN P8 proficiency front and centre, since it is the core tool for schematic capture and panel layout throughout the role, alongside documented experience with industrial electrical schematics covering power and control circuits for machinery.

Resume & Application Tips: Because the posting calls out UL508A, NFPA79, and NEC by name, list those standards explicitly on your resume next to any project where you applied them. If you have managed or contributed to bills of material for electrical cabinets or field wiring, describe the scope of that work (number of line items, cabinet size, or production volume) so the detail is concrete. For example: “Maintained BOMs for 12-cabinet control systems across three production lines.” AutoCAD Electrical experience and any EPLAN macro development are worth a dedicated line each.

Interview Preparation: Come ready with a specific example of a schematic or panel layout you produced from scratch, including which national standards you followed and how you caught or corrected an error. The posting mentions a fast-paced environment and close collaboration with engineers, so prepare to describe a time you managed competing priorities or turned around a redline update under time pressure. Worth asking: what the typical ratio of new schematic work to maintenance and redline tasks looks like on a given project cycle.
