Responsibilities

As a Staff Systems Developer Manager on the AlphaNet Core SRE team, your day-to-day work centres on leading large-scale system design, driving sustainable reliability practices, and building the technical and human capacity of your team. These responsibilities directly shape Google’s infrastructure and the reliability of services used by millions of customers globally.

  • Lead designs of major software components, systems, and features to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Google’s services
  • Drive sustainable incident response, conduct blameless postmortems, and implement production improvements that create direct business value
  • Provide guidance to team members on managing availability and performance of mission-critical services and building automation to prevent recurring issues
  • Build automated responses for non-exceptional service conditions, reducing manual toil and improving system resilience
  • Mentor and train team members on design techniques and coding standards, cultivating innovation and collaboration across multiple teams
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables at the individual and team level

Requirements / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience in one or more of: Go, Python, or C++
  • 4+ years of experience leading projects in a technical engineering environment
  • 3+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems, with knowledge of administration (filesystems, inodes, system calls) or networking (TCP/IP, routing, network topologies, SDN)
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering is considered an asset
  • Strong background in automation, reliability engineering, and large-scale cloud infrastructure
