About the Role: Android Infrastructure Software Developer

As part of Google’s Core team, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Android developer infrastructure that underpins Google’s mobile ecosystem. You’ll partner with product teams across the organization to identify developer productivity bottlenecks and deliver scalable solutions. This includes leading design reviews, reviewing code, and contributing to documentation and educational content that helps developers across Google do their best work.

Beyond building, you’ll also be expected to triage and resolve product and system issues by identifying root causes and assessing their impact on service quality. Google is looking for engineers who can work across the full stack, demonstrate technical leadership, and adapt as the team’s projects evolve. Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be working at the intersection of mobile engineering and developer experience, building tools and infrastructure that directly affect the productivity and quality of software development across Google’s Android ecosystem. The work is technical, collaborative, and high-leverage — every improvement you ship can benefit hundreds of engineers.

  • Design, build, and maintain Android developer infrastructure, including build tooling, frameworks, and libraries used across Google’s first-party mobile applications
  • Partner cross-functionally with product teams to identify developer productivity bottlenecks and deliver effective solutions
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, review code from other developers, and contribute to documentation and educational content
  • Triage and resolve product and system issues by analyzing their sources and assessing their impact on service operations and quality

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for a seasoned software developer with a strong background in Android development and a genuine interest in developer tooling and infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with the ability to collaborate across teams and lead with sound engineering judgment. Experience with large-scale application architecture is essential, as is comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field
  • 5 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages
  • 3 years of Android application development experience
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, plus at least 1 year working with large-scale application design and architecture
  • Proficiency in Kotlin or Java for Android development
  • Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Dagger or Hilt (preferred)
  • Familiarity with build systems and toolchains such as Bazel/Blaze, Gradle, KSP, or annotation processing (preferred)
  • Experience building developer tools that improve developer velocity, code quality, and code health — e.g., compilers, automated releases, test automation frameworks (preferred)
  • Interest in AI-assisted and agentic developer tooling (preferred)
