About the Role: Staff Applied AI Agent Developer

This position sits within Google’s Cloud Applied AI (AAI) team, which powers business growth through the Gemini Enterprise portfolio — including Shopping Agent, CX Agent Studio, Agent Assist, Vertex AI Search, and Customer Experience Insights. As a staff-level developer, you’ll work alongside model builders and product teams with a startup-style pace, building 0-to-1 capabilities and delivering real value to customers faster than traditional enterprise cycles allow.

The role demands both deep technical expertise in machine learning and GenAI and the communication skills to work directly with enterprise stakeholders. You’ll be a bridge between Google’s internal engineering teams and the customers who depend on these tools — creating reusable accelerators, establishing best practices, and serving as a subject matter expert on agent performance, CI/CD pipelines, and production readiness.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day, this role is a blend of deep technical development and direct engagement with Google’s most strategic enterprise customers. You’ll be empowered to write bespoke code, build custom tooling, and contribute directly to Google’s core product codebase when needed — all in service of accelerating customer success with AI.

  • Partner directly with select, strategic customers to understand their business challenges and co-develop tailored conversational AI solutions
  • Design, build, debug, and deploy custom AI agents on Google’s platform to reduce time-to-value for enterprise clients
  • Write bespoke code and develop custom tooling — including direct contributions to the core product codebase — to resolve critical customer issues
  • Systematize learnings from customer engagements by creating reusable tools, documentation, accelerators, and best practices across the organization
  • Serve as a feedback loop to core Product and Development teams, synthesizing field insights to influence product strategy and identify feature gaps
  • Provide technical guidance on agent improvement, performance tuning, CI/CD pipelines, and production readiness as a recognized subject matter expert

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for a versatile, senior-level developer who brings both strong machine learning expertise and hands-on experience shipping production software at scale. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and can take ownership of complex problems end-to-end.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant technical field
  • 8+ years of experience testing and launching software products, with at least 3 years in software design and architecture
  • 5+ years of ML experience in one or more areas: speech/audio processing, reinforcement learning, ML infrastructure, or another specialized ML domain
  • Core GenAI knowledge including hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), multi-modal models, large vision models, and generation across text, image, video, or audio
  • Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Preferred: Experience with Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Dialogflow, along with prompt development and model evaluation
  • Preferred: 8+ years of experience with data structures and algorithms
