Software Development Engineer – Amazon Ads, Recommendation Experience – Toronto, ON (Canada)

About the Role
As a Software Development Engineer, you will work closely with design and product teams to transform early prototypes into compelling experiences. You will propose innovative tools, frameworks, and processes that the Recommendation Optimization team and the larger organization can utilize. Additionally, you will deep-dive into client or server systems to optimize for performance, maintainability, scalability, and extensibility as needed.
In this role, you will have the chance to build complex software systems that deliver impactful results for advertisers globally. You will also mentor team members to promote engineering excellence, helping to shape the future of Amazon Advertising’s products.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design and product teams to understand needs and create early prototypes.
- Propose innovative tools, frameworks, and processes for the Recommendation Optimization team.
- Write clean, maintainable code and perform peer code-reviews.
- Optimize client or server systems for performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Mentor team members to promote engineering excellence.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software development experience (excluding internships).
- 2+ years of design or architecture experience, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of systems.
- Proficiency in at least one software programming language.
- Experience building complex software systems successfully delivered to customers.
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
