About the Role: Software Development Engineer, Demand Tech

As part of the Reach Planning Engineering team, your day-to-day will involve close collaboration with data scientists, product managers, and cross-functional partners to define and build new API features that improve media planning capabilities. You’ll write production-quality code, lead design discussions, and conduct meaningful code reviews — all while owning the operational health of the systems you build.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary for this Software Development Engineer position in Toronto ranges from $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually. Total compensation may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll own significant portions of Amazon’s advertising platform infrastructure, contributing to both day-to-day operations and longer-term architectural direction. Your contributions will directly shape how advertisers plan and measure their campaigns at scale across Amazon’s ad ecosystem.

  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance systems that power Amazon’s advertising platform, ensuring robust functionality and an optimal user experience
  • Lead code reviews and actively participate in the full software development lifecycle — including scoping, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Own operational excellence for your systems by proactively identifying root causes of issues and delivering permanent, reliability-improving solutions
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Amazon to understand business needs and translate requirements into technical solutions that enhance campaign effectiveness for advertisers
  • Develop APIs and AI-powered agents that leverage Amazon’s unique signals to optimize ad planning and delivery, contributing to the growth of the advertising business
  • Analyze system performance and optimize algorithms throughout the day, working alongside data scientists and product managers to define requirements for new features

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for an engineer with solid hands-on software development experience and a strong foundation in system design and architecture.   • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 1+ year of experience in system design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language
  • 3+ years of experience across the full software development lifecycle — coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience working with GenAI-powered development tools and agentic AI assistants such as code generation, AI-assisted debugging, automated testing, and documentation tools (preferred)
