Amazon Web Services is hiring a Software Development Engineer II to join the Oracle Database@AWS (ODB@AWS) team — a group building a fully managed Oracle Database service on AWS, and doing so from the ground up. This isn’t a maintenance role. You’ll be architecting and delivering features that let customers deploy, manage, and scale Oracle databases with the reliability that AWS is known for. About the Role: Software Development Engineer II, Oracle Database@AWS
As an SDE II on the ODB@AWS team, you’ll own feature delivery end-to-end: from requirements gathering and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operational support. You’ll work across the full stack, partnering with product management, database engineers, and AWS partner teams to ship a world-class managed database service. This is a position with real ownership — you’ll drive technical decisions, not just execute them.
Beyond individual delivery, you’ll play a meaningful role on the team itself. Mentoring junior engineers, contributing to architecture discussions, conducting code reviews, and writing design documents are all part of how you’ll raise the technical bar. Benefits and Salary
This position offers a base salary range of $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually for the Vancouver location. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Responsibilities

- Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems that power the ODB@AWS service
- Own end-to-end feature delivery from requirements gathering through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, database engineers, and partner teams across AWS
- Contribute to system architecture decisions and drive technical excellence through code reviews, design documents, and best practices
- Mentor junior engineers and raise the technical bar for the broader team
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings solid professional software development experience along with a strong foundation in system design and architecture. - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience in a production environment
- 2+ years of design or architecture experience covering design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems
- Proficiency in at least one programming language used in a professional context
- Full software development life cycle experience (preferred), including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred but not required)
