About the Role: Senior Software Developer, Engineering Productivity

As a Senior Software Developer on the Platforms and Devices team, you’ll write and test product and system development code, lead and participate in design reviews, and help set the technical direction for critical Google projects. You’ll collaborate with peers and stakeholders to evaluate available technologies and make sound architectural decisions. The team is focused on making user interactions with computing faster and more seamless — work that has a direct impact on people across the globe.

Beyond coding, you’ll play a meaningful role in code quality and knowledge sharing — reviewing peers’ code, contributing to documentation, and triaging and resolving system issues by tracing their impact on hardware, network, and service operations. Responsibilities

Day-to-day, this role blends hands-on engineering with collaborative technical leadership. You’ll be expected to own your work from design through to deployment, all while raising the bar for quality across the team. Here’s what the work looks like in practice:

  • Write and test product and system development code to high standards of quality and reliability
  • Lead or participate in design reviews with peers and stakeholders, evaluating available technologies to guide sound decisions
  • Review code from other developers and provide constructive feedback focused on style guidelines, accuracy, testability, and efficiency
  • Contribute to existing documentation and educational content, updating it based on product changes and user feedback
  • Triage and debug product or system issues by analyzing root causes and assessing their impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for engineers who bring both technical rigour and a collaborative mindset to their work. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in software development and embedded systems, with a track record of working on complex, large-scale projects. Preferred candidates who have led technical work or pursued graduate-level study will stand out.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field
  • 5 years of experience in software development in one or more programming languages
  • 3 years of experience working with embedded operating systems
  • 1 year of experience in software design and architecture
  • Experience in one or more of: test automation, refactoring code, test-driven development, build infrastructure, optimizing software, debugging, or building testing frameworks
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms (preferred)
  • 1 year in a technical leadership role (preferred)
  • Experience developing accessible technologies (preferred)
