About the Role: Senior Financial Analyst – Margin Accounting

At its core, this role is about being a trusted accounting partner for margin-related work across multiple Canadian Tire banners. You’ll be responsible for analyzing revenue and cost of sales, investigating trends and anomalies, leading the development and maintenance of sales return provision models, and managing royalty arrangement accounting in line with contractual terms and IFRS standards. Final compensation depends on experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Responsibilities

Day-to-day, this role blends technical accounting with business partnering. You’ll be expected to manage recurring financial obligations with precision while also contributing to more complex, project-based initiatives that require strategic thinking and sound judgment. Here’s what the work looks like in practice:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams as the key accounting contact for margin-related business initiatives across Mark’s, SportChek, PHL, Sports Experts, and PartSource
  • Provide accounting guidance and ensure appropriate treatment and policy decisions are applied to new programs, contracts, and business initiatives
  • Lead development and maintenance of sales return provision models across multiple banners, analyzing trends, assumptions, and key drivers
  • Manage accounting for royalty arrangements, ensuring accurate financial recognition and reporting in line with contractual terms and accounting standards
  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entry review, account reconciliations, and financial analysis
  • Report financial results, explain variances to prior year, budget, and forecast, and provide updates on key initiatives
  • Monitor and execute all key internal controls
  • Manage relationships with Accounting, FP&A, Tax, and internal/external auditors
  • Participate in or lead ad hoc analyses, projects, and business initiatives as assigned

  • CPA designation is required
  • University degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a medium or large company accounting department or accounting firm
  • IFRS expertise, including researching and developing accounting position documents
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, along with proficiency in Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to see the big picture in a complex environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of building cross-functional relationships
  • Familiarity with internal and external audit processes
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), and Copilot is an asset
