Responsibilities
The day-to-day work of a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco involves a blend of patient-facing service, precise prescription processing, and behind-the-scenes pharmacy operations. Every task you carry out directly supports both the pharmacist and the members relying on timely, accurate medication dispensing.
- Assist members at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions, retrieve filled prescriptions, and provide prompt and courteous patient service
- Process register transactions including payment, change, cheques, and credit/debit charges
- Maintain patient records by obtaining medical history, entering prescription information into the pharmacy computer, and preserving patient confidentiality in accordance with provincial regulations
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications into appropriate containers, labelling, and pricing under the pharmacist’s supervision
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed by the pharmacist, and follow all safety and security procedures
- Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions in both prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed, and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized system
- Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products; maintain department cleanliness and follow merchandising standards
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for a licensed and certified Pharmacy Technician who brings both technical qualifications and genuine member service skills to the role.
