About the Role: Pharmacy Student

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you’ll assist with the full spectrum of pharmacy operations — from collecting patient information and inputting prescriptions into the pharmacy software system, to filling and labelling medications and processing register transactions. You’ll also play a supporting role in medication review services and help recruit patients for Costco Pharmacy’s Health Promotion Clinics.

This role requires strict compliance with provincial regulations regarding pharmacy student practice, as well as full adherence to Costco pharmacy policies and procedures. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times. You’ll be expected to work collaboratively with pharmacy staff to keep operations running smoothly, the workspace clean and organised, and members well-served.

Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, your responsibilities span both clinical support and direct member service. You’ll be working under the constant guidance of a pharmacist, contributing to prescription workflows, patient education, and expanded pharmacy programs that make a real difference in members’ health outcomes.

  • Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to product locations
  • Collect patient information and input prescriptions into the pharmacy software system accurately and efficiently
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labelling under pharmacist supervision
  • Alert the pharmacist when necessary, such as in cases of drug interactions or patient concerns
  • Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions per established procedures
  • Communicate with patients regarding OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
  • Provide prescription counselling under pharmacist direction, based on competency level and provincial regulation
  • Identify and recruit patients eligible for the medication review program and assist with its delivery
  • Support Health Promotion Clinics by helping to develop, recruit for, and implement clinic initiatives
  • Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help maintain a clean, well-organised pharmacy
  • Comply with provincial regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
