Pharmacy Student – Costco – Surrey, BC

Costco’s pharmacy team in Surrey, BC is looking for an enrolled Pharmacy Student to join their busy location at 7423 King George Highway. This is a hands-on role that puts your academic training to work in a real community pharmacy setting, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

You’ll be involved in everything from prescription order entry and medication dispensing to supporting Health Promotion Clinics and medication review services. It’s a role that bridges classroom learning and practical patient care in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment.

About the Role: Pharmacy Student

Working under the constant supervision of a pharmacist, you’ll assist with the full drug distribution process — from inputting prescriptions into the pharmacy software system to counting, labelling, and packaging medications. You’ll also help staff the counter, assist members with OTC product queries, and process register transactions following established procedures.

Beyond dispensing support, you’ll play a meaningful role in patient engagement — identifying candidates for medication review programs, assisting with Health Promotion Clinic planning, and providing prescription counselling appropriate to your competency level and provincial regulations. Patient confidentiality and compliance with provincial pharmacy regulations are cornerstones of this role.

Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, your daily work will span both technical pharmacy tasks and direct member-facing service. Every responsibility is carried out under the guidance of a supervising pharmacist to ensure both safety and professional development.

• Answer and triage member phone calls and direct them to the appropriate product location
• Collect patient information and accurately input prescriptions into the pharmacy software system
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labelling under pharmacist supervision
• Alert the pharmacist when drug interactions or patient concerns arise
• Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions promptly and courteously
• Communicate with patients about OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
• Provide prescription counselling as permitted by competency level and provincial regulation
• Identify and recruit patients eligible for medication review programs and support the pharmacist in delivering those services
• Support Health Promotion Clinics by assisting with recruitment and implementation planning
• Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help maintain a clean, organized pharmacy

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program and is eager to apply their studies in a community pharmacy setting. Strong communication and a genuine commitment to patient care are essential — Costco members expect attentive, knowledgeable service.

• Enrolled in an approved pharmacy program — current enrolment is required
• Registered with the respective provincial College as a pharmacy student
• Community pharmacy experience is preferred, particularly familiarity with Kroll pharmacy software
• Excellent communication and member service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively within a team
