Responsibilities
The Optical Student role covers a broad range of tasks across member service, optical fitting, and department operations. Each responsibility contributes to a well-run optical department and a positive member experience.
- Assist members in selecting eyeglass frames and lens options, providing prompt and courteous service throughout the process
- Process transactions accurately, including cash, cheque, credit, and debit payments, following proper cash handling procedures
- Fit and adjust eyeglasses using frame warmers and manual techniques, where permitted by provincial law and under the supervision of a licensed optician
- Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by entering requisitions into the computer system
- Stock merchandise and supplies, following department standards for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage
- Maintain department cleanliness by spraying, wiping, mopping, emptying trash, and operating the trash compactor and cardboard bailer
- Follow all safety and security procedures and assist in other warehouse areas as needed
