About the Role: iOS SDK Technical Lead, Android XR

As the iOS SDK Technical Lead, you’ll own the full technical strategy for the Android XR iOS SDK — from defining the architectural vision to driving hands-on development, testing, and deployment of robust iOS SDK frameworks and companion app integrations. You’ll leverage iOS native libraries and languages including Swift, Objective-C, and C++ to solve complex engineering challenges around connectivity, background processing, power optimization, and secure data synchronization between iOS devices and XR hardware.

Beyond writing and reviewing code, this position requires strong cross-functional partnership — you’ll collaborate closely with Product Management, Developer Relations, Partner Engineering, and Android XR platform teams to align roadmaps and deliver a cohesive developer experience. Responsibilities

In this leadership role, you’ll be accountable for both the big-picture technical strategy and the day-to-day engineering execution of the Android XR iOS SDK. From architectural decisions to code reviews, your work will directly shape how the global developer community builds XR experiences on iOS.

  • Define the technical goal, architectural strategy, and API design for the Android XR iOS SDK, ensuring long-term scalability, backward compatibility, and developer ergonomics
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust iOS SDK frameworks and companion app integrations using iOS native libraries and languages (Swift, Objective-C, C++)
  • Build UI Toolkit components optimized for XR experiences driven through iOS applications or Gemini-connected experiences
  • Solve complex technical challenges involving connectivity, communication, background processing, sensor data streaming, power/battery optimization, and secure data synchronization between iOS and XR devices
  • Partner with cross-functional leads across Product Management, Developer Relations, Partner Engineering, and Android XR platform teams to align roadmaps and deliver a cohesive cross-platform developer experience
  • Set standards for code quality, API documentation, testing strategies, and design reviews across the team

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for a technically deep, leadership-oriented software developer who brings both hands-on iOS expertise and the strategic mindset to guide a high-impact SDK program. The ideal candidate is someone who communicates clearly, thinks at a systems level, and thrives in technically ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of software development experience in Swift, Objective-C, or C++
  • 5+ years of experience testing, maintaining, and launching software products
  • 5+ years of iOS development experience with applications, SDKs, or frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience in software design and architecture (preferred)
  • Algorithms knowledge and understanding of computational complexity (preferred)
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills for complex systems and distributed software (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration (preferred)
