About the Role: Facilities Technician

Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and reliability of Tesla’s Richmond Hill facility. You’ll perform facility rounds, identify maintenance needs, write and execute Method of Procedure (MOP) documents, and respond to alarms from the BMS/building automation system. Minor repairs — from patching walls to replacing ceiling tiles and light fixtures — are also part of the scope, along with supporting equipment setup and office reconfigurations.

Safety and quality are central to how this role operates. You’ll work hand-in-hand with the EHS team when coordinating contractors and vendors, and you’ll be expected to respond to maintenance emergencies and operational requests from multiple internal teams. Experience in commercial, critical, or manufacturing environments is preferred and will help you hit the ground running.

The expected pay ranges are as follows: Engineering Technician III: $31.46–$47.19/hr, Engineering Technician IV: $36.08–$54.12/hr, and Engineering Technician V: $42.24–$63.36/hr — plus cash and stock awards for all levels. Responsibilities

As a Facilities Technician at Tesla’s Richmond Hill location, your work spans everything from routine inspections to emergency response. You’ll be the first line of defence in keeping the facility safe, compliant, and fully operational — supporting teams across the building with technical expertise and a proactive mindset.

  • Perform facility rounds to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and repair or upkeep items before they escalate
  • Troubleshoot electrical and HVAC systems, diagnose root causes, and carry out repairs or escalate as appropriate
  • Monitor and respond to BMS/building automation alarms; adjust setpoints and support ongoing system optimization
  • Write, update, and execute MOPs; coordinate and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems with accurate record-keeping
  • Complete minor facilities repairs including patching, ceiling tiles, and light bulb replacements, as well as general labour such as equipment setup and moving office furniture
  • Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors on repairs and projects, collaborating with EHS to uphold safety and quality standards
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies, working alongside EHS, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other teams to support operational requirements

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings at least five years of hands-on experience in building operations or a related field and has a track record of working independently in structured, technical environments. Tesla values self-motivated professionals who communicate clearly, stay organized under pressure, and take ownership of problems from start to finish.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field; commercial or manufacturing experience preferred
  • MOP writing experience and a structured approach to maintenance and troubleshooting work
  • Building automation and BMS software experience, with the ability to interpret system data and respond to alarms
  • Sound knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, including the ability to read line diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Physical capability to perform hands-on labour, lift at least 50 lbs, and climb ladders and stairs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Forklift and aerial equipment operation experience is an asset for this role
