About the Role: Sorter

As a Sorter at the Costco Varennes Depot, your primary function is to pick orders from stored goods and break down received pallets for shipping. You’ll handle a variety of physical tasks — from stacking and shrink-wrapping pallets to unloading containers — all while keeping your work area safe and your supervisors informed of any issues.

This role also involves member and team service, as you’ll be expected to provide prompt and courteous assistance when needed. Attention to Costco’s quality and pallet standards is essential, and following food safety and general safety procedures is a non-negotiable part of the job. Note: for this Québec location, candidates must be able to communicate in French (oral and written).

Responsibilities

Working in the Costco Varennes depot, the Sorter role centres on the accurate and efficient movement of goods through the distribution process. Each task plays a direct role in ensuring that warehouses receive the right products in the right condition and on time.

• Sort pallets of received goods into smaller shipping quantities according to buyer’s distribution instructions
• Stack goods from bed-loaded, damaged, or unacceptable pallets onto Costco-approved pallets; separate mixed item pallets for checking
• Secure and label goods on pallets with shrink wrap, verifying that pallets meet Costco standards before shipping
• Unload containers manually as required
• Report discrepancies or problems to managers promptly
• Maintain a safe work area by cleaning up debris and clearing any trip hazards
• Follow safety procedures at all times throughout the shift
• Provide prompt, courteous service to members as needed
• Assist in other areas of the depot as necessary

Requirements / Skills

This role is well-suited to candidates who are comfortable with physical, repetitive warehouse work and who take safety seriously. Costco values reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently within a team environment. No prior warehouse experience is required — what matters most is a strong work ethic and a willingness to follow established procedures.

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory
• Costco Food Safety Certification – Level 1 required (may be obtained upon hiring)
• Bilingualism (French and English) — oral and written French is required for this Québec location
• Physical fitness to perform manual labour including unloading containers and moving goods with a manual pallet jack
• No prior experience required — on-the-job training is provided
