About the Role: Package Handler
As a Package Handler at FedEx’s Prince George location, your primary responsibility is the physical loading, unloading, and sorting of packages by hand. You may rotate through various positions within the operation, including Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, Scan Weigh and Key (SWAK), Quality Assurance (QA), Facer, and Switcher. Depending on your experience and training, you may also take on specialized assignments such as Package Handler Trainer or Package Handler – Air.
Working safely is a core part of this job. You’ll be expected to follow all dock safety standards, use proper hand-to-surface package handling techniques, and operate in a fast-paced environment that can include both hot and cold temperatures and loud noise. Teamwork and clear communication are essential to keeping the operation running smoothly.
Benefits and Salary
This position pays $20.00 per hour, with shifts starting at 6:00 AM and typically lasting three to four hours. Monday to Saturday availability is required. Responsibilities
Day-to-day work as a Package Handler at FedEx centres on the safe and efficient movement of packages through the facility. You’ll be on your feet for the duration of your shift, using proper lifting and handling techniques to keep operations on schedule and packages damage-free.
- Load and unload packages onto and from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor systems, carts, and load gratings
- Sort packages by scanning labels, reading charts, verifying numbers, and memorizing routing information
- Lift, carry, push, and pull packages on a continuous and repetitive basis using hand-to-surface methods throughout your shift
- Rotate through various positions including Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, SWAK, QA, Facer, and Switcher as assigned
- Train fellow Package Handlers (if assigned as PH Trainer) on loading, unloading, palletizing, carrying, and scanning techniques
- Inspect packages in the airlift consolidation area for hazardous materials or ORM-D designations (if assigned as PH – Air)
- Reinforce dock safety standards and communicate operational conditions to management throughout the sort

- Physical capability to lift and carry packages between 5 and 50 lbs on a repetitive basis throughout a 3–5 hour shift

- Attention to detail when discerning numbers and information on package labels for accurate sorting
- Basic equipment operation including skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes, and unloading devices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well within a team
- Valid driver’s licence required for Package Handlers operating switching equipment
- Bilingualism (French and English) required if residing in the province of Quebec
