General Merchandise Associate – Walmart – Thornhill, Ontario

Walmart Canada is looking for a General Merchandise Associate to join their team at the Thornhill location on 700 Centre St. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced retail environment, helping customers find what they need, and keeping a store running smoothly, this could be a solid fit for you.

This is a temporary (fixed term) position with shifts available across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights. Day to day, you’ll be working the sales floor, stocking shelves, maintaining displays, and delivering the kind of helpful, friendly service that keeps customers coming back.

About the Role: General Merchandise Associate

As a General Merchandise Associate, your primary focus is keeping the general merchandise area well-stocked, organized, and customer-ready at all times. You’ll cover assigned sections of the sales floor, assist with Front End coverage when needed, and communicate with fellow associates to ensure customer needs are consistently met.

Beyond customer service, the role involves merchandising, zoning, recovery, and modular execution. You’ll be moving feature merchandise to its proper location, completing downstocking, applying product protection, and setting new shelf caps — all while upholding safety and cleanliness standards across your work area.

The minimum rate of pay for this position starts at $17.75 per hour. Responsibilities

Working as a General Merchandise Associate at Walmart means you’re an essential part of keeping the store running. From greeting customers on the floor to ensuring shelves are stocked and displays are tidy, your work directly shapes the shopping experience for every customer who walks through the door.

• Deliver excellent customer service by greeting customers, assisting with product selection, helping locate merchandise, and resolving or referring concerns as needed
• Cover assigned sales floor areas and assist with Front End coverage when required, communicating with associates to maintain consistent floor presence
• Zone assigned sections to keep the sales floor clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times
• Process recovery merchandise from the Customer Service desk and other store areas, returning items to their proper modular locations
• Stock merchandise and complete downstocking, applying product protection where needed and setting modulars including flex modulars and new shelf caps
• Maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment by following company policies, completing safety sweep logs, and ensuring displays and fixtures are secure
• Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs

Requirements / Skills

• Flexibility with scheduling — availability across mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays is expected
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods, bend, and lift inventory weighing up to 20 lbs. regularly, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to manage high task volume efficiently, completing large amounts of restocking and recovery accurately and on time
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with fellow associates and support team floor coverage
• Attention to detail when performing repetitive tasks such as stocking, zoning, and organizing products to uphold store standards
• Positive, customer-first mindset with a willingness to assist shoppers and contribute to a welcoming store environment
