Design Verification Engineer – Amazon – Toronto, ON

Amazon’s Custom Silicon organization is pushing the boundaries of cloud computing from its Toronto office, and they’re looking for a sharp Design Verification Engineer to join the team at Annapurna Labs. This is a chance to work on groundbreaking hardware — specifically AWS Inferentia and Trainium, custom-built machine learning accelerators powering AWS data centres worldwide.

You’ll be embedded in the Cloud-Scale Machine Learning Acceleration team, taking ownership of verification solutions at the sub-system and chip level. The work touches high-speed I/O, scale-up/out components, and the intricate interplay between hardware and software — meaningful work with real impact on the future of cloud infrastructure.

About the Role: Design Verification Engineer

In this position, you’ll build and execute verification environments using advanced simulation methodologies, including constrained-random simulation techniques like UVM. You’ll define test scenarios that stress system-level flows, critical paths, and corner cases, then drive coverage closure to ensure the design is tape-out ready. Collaboration is central to the role — you’ll work closely with design, architecture, and software teams to validate hardware-software interfaces and cross-module functionality.

Beyond technical execution, this role calls for strong debugging skills and the ability to identify bugs across architecture, algorithms, functionality, and performance. Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this role in Toronto is $104,900 to $175,100 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Responsibilities

As a Design Verification Engineer at Annapurna Labs, your day-to-day work centres on ensuring the reliability and correctness of complex SoC designs. You’ll own the verification process end-to-end — from planning through sign-off — collaborating across multiple technical teams to catch issues before they become costly problems.

• Own the development and execution of verification plans for components at sub-system and chip levels
• Build and implement verification environments using advanced simulation methodologies and industry-standard tools
• Define, create, and execute comprehensive test scenarios covering system-level flows, critical paths, and corner cases
• Drive coverage closure and verification sign-off to ensure high-quality, tape-out ready design
• Collaborate closely with design, architecture, and software teams to verify hardware-software interfaces and cross-module functionality
• Identify and debug issues across architecture, algorithms, functionality, and performance

Requirements / Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 4+ years of design verification experience using constrained-random simulation techniques such as UVM
• Verification experience at multiple levels — from IP blocks and SoCs to full system testing
• Strong debugging skills with the ability to identify bugs in architecture, algorithms, functionality, and performance
• Experience with scripting languages (Python or Perl) and industry-standard tools for automation (preferred)
• Familiarity with AMBA protocols (AHB/APB/AXI) and interconnect protocols such as PCIe and UCIe (preferred)
• C/C++ and Object-Oriented Programming experience is an asset
