About the Role: Android XR Application Compatibility AI Technical Lead

Your primary work involves building and scaling an automated application evaluation framework for Android XR. This includes intelligent crawlers, AI-powered visual detectors, and regression detection systems that confirm whether OS-level compatibility overrides fix app issues without creating new ones.

You’ll also participate in architectural design of a unified automated application runner and partner with the broader Android and Android XR platform teams to develop new capabilities.

The frameworks you build must run across physical devices, emulators, and cloud-hosted environments, so scalability and cross-platform reliability are central to the work.

Job Summary & Tips for Applying

AI-generated summary and tips to help you highlight your strengths effectively.

Quick Summary & What to Highlight: The Android XR Application Compatibility AI Technical Lead position at Google in Waterloo, ON is a senior engineering role building automated AI-powered frameworks to test how Android apps behave on XR hardware. A candidate’s resume should put software development experience in languages such as Python, Java, or Kotlin front and first, followed by any work with computer vision or LLM-based tooling, since both are named as core parts of the framework being built.

Resume & Application Tips: The posting distinguishes between required qualifications (the degree or equivalent plus five years of development experience) and preferred ones (algorithms, debugging, communication). On your resume, spell out the specific languages you’ve used from the list the posting names: GO, Java, Python, C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, Kotlin. If you’ve worked on test automation, AI-based quality systems, or cross-platform execution environments, describe that work concretely. A measurable example strengthens the picture: for instance, “Reduced regression escape rate by 30% by building an automated visual-diff framework across three device types.”

Interview Preparation: Come ready with a specific example of a scalable test or evaluation framework you designed, since architectural design and implementation of a unified automated runner is listed as a core duty. Be prepared to talk through your experience with physical devices, emulators, or cloud-hosted environments, as the posting names all three. The posting does not state the team size or how the technical lead responsibilities divide between hands-on coding and stakeholder coordination, so that is worth asking to understand the day-to-day balance.
