This is an indeterminate position based at CNSC’s Head Office in Ottawa with a hybrid work arrangement. The salary range is $75,904.00 – $123,049.00 per year. The closing date for applications is September 27, 2024, 11:59 pm (EST).

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineering Specialist, you will provide key technical services in your area of specialization. You will work on assessing nuclear facilities’ compliance with regulatory requirements, participating in technical inspections, and supporting other technical staff in various projects. Your responsibilities include:

  • Assessing nuclear facilities’ compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Participating in technical inspections at licensee facilities as a subject matter expert (SME) or supporting the SME.
  • Reviewing licensee applications and compliance-related submissions.
  • Preparing inspection and technical reports, inspection guides, procedures, and other documentation.
  • Representing CNSC at national and international technical/scientific meetings.
  • Supporting pre-licensing vendor design reviews and construction/operation licence applications for new nuclear facilities.
  • Monitoring CNSC and/or licensee R&D.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering from a recognized university, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge.

Experience:

  • For REG5: 1 to 4 years of experience in nuclear, mechanical, materials, and/or metallurgical engineering.
  • For REG6: 4 to 7 years of experience in the above fields.
  • Assisting (REG5) / Preparing and reviewing (REG6) scientific papers, reports, and documents in mechanical/materials engineering.
  • Basic (REG5) / Moderate (REG6) experience in project management and coordination.

Knowledge: CANDU reactor design, operations, safety, aging management for mechanical components, pressure boundary jurisdictions, and Canadian nuclear regulatory framework including applicable CNSC regulatory documents and CSA standards.
