About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier
As an on-call relief carrier, you’ll be responsible for the full cycle of mail delivery — from sorting parcels and letters at the post office to delivering them safely and on time along your assigned rural route. You’ll get to know your communities well, including road layouts, customer locations, and delivery receptacles. The role requires physical stamina, solid motor vehicle operation skills, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
You’ll represent Canada Post directly in the communities you serve, which means wearing your Canada Post identification visibly and handling mail with care and professionalism. You’ll also process a variety of CPC products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). Responsibilities
Day to day, this role is all about keeping communities connected through reliable mail and parcel delivery along rural and suburban routes. Each shift requires a combination of physical effort, route knowledge, and careful handling of mail items. Here’s what the work looks like in practice:
- Sort and deliver mail items safely and on time to rural and suburban addresses
- Collect mail from customers and ensure all items remain securely in your possession during delivery
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles along your assigned route
- Process CPC products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
- Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly while on delivery
- Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
- Operate a personal motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions
- Maintain required automobile liability insurance and notify your insurer of vehicle use for Canada Post duties
Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for organized, dependable individuals who are comfortable on the road and confident managing their route without close supervision. Your vehicle is part of the job, so meeting the mandatory vehicle requirements is essential.
- Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
- Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
- Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post specifications: minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
- Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
- French language skills — French Essential for this position
- Residence within 75 km of the Knowlton Post Office is preferred
- Ability to pass a formal interview as part of the selection process
