About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier

You’ll also process various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail reports, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

As an on-call relief carrier, your work keeps mail and parcels moving across rural and suburban Huntsville. Each shift requires attention to detail, familiarity with local routes, and a steady commitment to safe, timely service. Here’s what the role involves on a regular basis:
- Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
- Learn and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in the Huntsville area
- Secure all mail properly while in your possession throughout each delivery run
- Process Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
- Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
- Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) as part of daily duties
- Operate your motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions, adhering to all road safety standards
- Maintain required automobile liability insurance for personal vehicle use and notify your insurer of its use with Canada Post
Requirements / Skills
Canada Post is looking for dependable, organized individuals who are comfortable working independently on the road. The right candidate takes safe driving seriously, handles responsibility with care, and is ready to represent Canada Post professionally in the communities they serve.
- Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
- Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
- Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varying weather and traffic conditions
- Personal vehicle meeting mandatory requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof with accessory power outlet, passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
- Valid automobile liability insurance with the ability to notify your insurer of vehicle use for Canada Post
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) regularly throughout the workday
