About the Role: Preload Package Handler

As a Preload Package Handler at UPS Kanata, your primary duties involve loading and unloading packages into trailers and package cars, sorting shipments by postal code, and stocking packages efficiently so drivers can start their routes on time. You may also operate heavy machinery as needed. The work is physical and structured, requiring focus and the ability to keep up with operational pace.

UPS places a strong emphasis on safe package handling methods and proper lifting techniques. You’ll be expected to follow established protocols, work reliably across all five scheduled days, and adapt to flexible start and finish times based on operational needs. This is a permanent, unionized position with automatic wage progression built into the Collective Agreement.

Benefits and Salary

This role starts at $18.30 per hour with automatic wage progression up to $30.09 per hour after 48 months of service, as outlined in the Union Collective Agreement. Responsibilities

Each morning, the Preload team plays a critical role in getting packages sorted and loaded before drivers hit the road. The work is physical, repetitive in nature, and requires attention to detail — especially when sorting by postal code. Here’s what you’ll be doing on a typical shift:

• Load and unload UPS packages into trailers and package cars accurately and efficiently
• Sort and stock packages based on postal code to ensure proper routing
• Learn and apply UPS package handling methods and safety protocols
• Operate heavy machinery as required to support warehouse operations
• Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the shift in a fast-paced environment

Requirements / Skills

UPS is looking for candidates who are physically capable, reliable, and detail-oriented. Since this is an early morning shift that runs five days a week, consistent availability and punctuality are essential. Warehouse experience is an asset but not required — what matters most is your work ethic and ability to keep pace with a demanding environment.

• Physical strength — ability to lift up to 70 lbs. / 32 kgs.
• Postal code knowledge — ability to read and memorize postal codes for accurate sorting
• Schedule availability — must be available Monday to Friday with flexibility on start/end times; must be able to work 25 hours per week
• Comfort in a demanding environment — comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding warehouse setting
• Warehouse experience — previous warehouse or logistics experience is preferred
