About the Role: Preload Package Handler

As a Preload Package Handler, you’ll be responsible for the physical handling of UPS parcels — loading and unloading packages into trailers and package cars, sorting shipments by postal code, and ensuring everything is properly stocked and ready for delivery drivers. You’ll follow UPS package handling methods and may use heavy machinery to assist with tasks. This is a fast-moving environment where accuracy and physical stamina go hand in hand.

Safety and teamwork are central to everything done on the preload shift. You’ll be expected to follow proper lifting techniques (packages can weigh up to 70 lbs/32 kgs), adhere to UPS’s operational procedures, and work collaboratively with your team to hit daily targets. Flexibility with start and finish times is required based on day-to-day operational needs.

Benefits and Salary

This position starts at $18.30 per hour ($17.30 base + a $1.00 hourly bonus), with automatic pay progression under the Union Collective Agreement up to $30.09 per hour after 48 months of service. You’ll receive weekly pay via direct deposit every Friday. After one year of service, you become eligible for extended health care benefits including vision, dental, health, and life insurance. UPS also offers tuition reimbursement up to $2,000 per semester (subject to eligibility and program approval), paid vacation starting at 2 weeks after one year (growing to 6 weeks after 25 years), personal paid days off, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), employee discounts, and an Employee Referral Bonus Program.

Responsibilities

Every morning on the preload shift, package handlers are the backbone of UPS’s delivery network. The work is physical, structured, and time-sensitive — your contributions directly impact whether thousands of packages reach their destinations on time.

• Load and unload UPS packages into trailers and package cars efficiently and safely
• Sort and stock packages based on postal code to ensure accurate routing
• Learn and apply proper UPS package handling methods as trained
• Operate heavy machinery as required to assist with package movement
• Maintain pace in a fast-moving warehouse environment to meet daily targets
• Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors based on operational needs

Requirements / Skills
