iOS Engineer: Cloud Media and Collaboration – Apple – Vancouver, BC

Vancouver is home to one of Apple’s most technically ambitious teams, and they’re looking for a senior iOS Engineer to take the lead on cloud media and collaboration infrastructure. This is a founding-team role — you won’t be inheriting someone else’s codebase or incrementally improving an existing system. Day to day, you’ll be writing performant, multi-threaded Swift code that ships to a massive user base, working directly with HI designers, QA engineers, and cross-functional partners. Your role goes well beyond implementation — you’ll be influencing product direction, mentoring engineers around you, and deepening your expertise in CloudKit, AVKit, and on-device storage systems at Apple’s scale.

Responsibilities

• Architect and own end-to-end cloud syncing and media management features from scoping through to production release

• Influence product direction by bridging deep technical expertise with clear, accessible communication for non-technical collaborators
• Mentor engineers on the team, raising the collective technical bar through code reviews, architectural guidance, and knowledge sharing
• Apply expertise in CloudKit, AVKit, and on-device storage to solve real consumer and professional media management challenges
• Diagnose and resolve systemic performance bottlenecks across memory, I/O, networking, and database layers

Requirements / Skills

Apple is looking for an engineer who combines deep technical foundations with the communication skills and leadership experience to operate across teams. The ideal candidate has a track record of shipping reliable, scalable systems on Apple platforms and is comfortable owning complex work from first principles.

• 3+ years shipping production code on iOS and/or macOS platforms with demonstrated reliability and scale
• Advanced Swift proficiency — evidenced through shipped frameworks, performance-critical systems, or large codebases
• Deep expertise in cloud syncing architectures and media management technologies applied to real consumer or professional products
• Proven technical lead experience — owning scoping, cross-team coordination, and stakeholder communication on multi-quarter features
• Strong command of concurrency and multi-threaded programming with measurable outcomes in correctness and throughput
• Solid computer science foundations — data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design at production scale
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience
