About the Role: Industrial Engineer I
As an Industrial Engineer I at UPS, your work will span everything from facility layout design using AutoCAD to developing Work Measurement standards, analyzing resource requirements, and identifying cost-saving opportunities across warehouse operations. You’ll lead planning and implementation of improvement initiatives that can affect individual clients, entire warehouse facilities, or the broader strategic direction of UPS Healthcare in Canada.

Responsibilities
Day-to-day, you’ll be working at the intersection of data analysis, process design, and stakeholder collaboration. The Industrial Engineer I role at UPS is hands-on and project-driven — you’ll be expected to identify problems, build solutions, and lead implementations that create measurable results across Canadian warehouse and healthcare distribution operations.
- Lead Continuous Improvement projects aimed at increasing profitability and operational efficiency across facilities
- Identify and quantify cost savings, innovation opportunities, and process improvement initiatives
- Analyze operational data to determine optimal storage environments, facility layouts, and resource requirements based on volume and Work Measurement standards
- Utilize AutoCAD to design facility layouts, storage configurations, and processing area plans that maximize warehouse efficiency
- Develop Work Measurement (WMT) standards and use them to drive data-informed resource and material handling equipment (MHE) planning
- Perform financial analysis to build business cases, cost justifications, and requests for appropriation
- Analyze facility capacity and utilization trends to support future planning needs
- Identify and pilot new technologies to support UPS transformation goals and address operational inefficiencies
- Support and engage cross-functional teams including Operations, Solutions Engineering, Building & Systems Engineering, and Quality on special projects
Requirements / Skills
UPS is looking for a driven, analytically strong engineer who can work independently and bring others along on the journey. You’ll need to be comfortable both in the data and in the boardroom — capable of running complex analyses and then communicating findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Experience in logistics, supply chain, or healthcare warehouse operations is a definite advantage.
- Bachelor of Engineering degree from a Canadian accredited program or international equivalent; Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Systems Engineering preferred
- 2–3 years of work experience required, with logistics or supply chain industry experience preferred
- Advanced Excel capabilities including VBA, along with proficiency in the full MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
- Experience with 2D CAD software (AutoCAD LT) for facility and layout design
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills including the ability to analyze work methods, processes, and flows, and create estimates and forecasts
- Excellent communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to present complex ideas to audiences of varying technical ability
- Working knowledge of project management fundamentals and an ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with lean or six sigma methodologies, GMP, SQL, and healthcare or general warehouse distribution operations are considered strong assets
