About the Role: Android XR Application Compatibility AI Technical Lead

As the AI Technical Lead on Google’s XR team, you’ll help design, scale, and deliver an automated application evaluation framework that uses AI vision models, intelligent crawlers, and automated regression detection to ensure Android apps behave correctly in XR environments. You’ll also play a hands-on role in building the infrastructure that runs these evaluations — across physical devices, emulators, and cloud-hosted environments.

Collaboration is central to this work. You’ll be partnering closely with Android platform teams and Android XR engineers to develop new capabilities that improve app experiences. Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be leading technical work that directly shapes how Android applications function in XR environments. From AI-driven evaluation pipelines to scalable execution frameworks, your contributions will have real impact on Google’s next generation of XR products and the developers building for that platform.

  • Design and lead an automated application evaluation framework that leverages computer vision, LLMs, and intelligent application crawlers
  • Implement AI vision models to detect spatial layout issues, rendering distortions, overlapping UI elements, and input collision problems specific to XR environments
  • Build and maintain automated regression detectors to verify that new OS-level compatibility overrides resolve app issues without introducing new regressions
  • Lead architectural design and implementation of a unified automated application runner for Android XR AppCompat
  • Develop scalable application execution frameworks that operate across physical devices, emulators, and cloud-hosted environments
  • Partner with Android and Android XR platform teams to develop new capabilities that improve application experiences in XR

Requirements / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience using one or more general-purpose languages such as Go, Java, Python, C/C++, C#, Objective-C, JavaScript, or Kotlin
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of algorithms and their complexity
  • Software and systems troubleshooting and debugging expertise
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
