Canada Post is looking for a dependable and organized individual to join their team as a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief in Lion’s Head, Ontario. This is a temporary on-call position — ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, navigating local roads, and being a reliable presence in the community.
Working on an on-call basis, you’ll be responsible for sorting, collecting, and delivering mail to various communities in the area. As part of one of Canada’s most recognized national organizations, you’ll also have the opportunity to grow — on-call carriers may be eligible to apply for future permanent Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier positions.
About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief
Day to day, you’ll be out on the road delivering and collecting mail across your assigned route in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions. You’ll need to operate your own motor vehicle that meets Canada Post’s specific cargo and safety requirements, and you’ll wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times during deliveries. You’ll also handle various CPC products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).
This role requires strong attention to safety and attention to local detail. You’ll be expected to maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles while ensuring all mail remains securely in your possession throughout your route. Physical capability matters too — you’ll be expected to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg).

Responsibilities
As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, your primary focus will be the safe and timely delivery of mail across your assigned route. Every day on the job contributes to connecting Canadians to one another — a role that carries real importance in rural communities like Lion’s Head.
- Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on schedule across assigned rural and suburban routes
- Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
- Secure all mail items in your possession throughout the entirety of each delivery
- Process CPC products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
- Wear Canada Post identification visibly during all deliveries and collections
- Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of regular delivery duties
- Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate is someone with a solid safe driving history, comfort behind the wheel in varying conditions, and the reliability to show up when called upon. Canada Post values candidates who take their duties seriously and represent the organization with professionalism on every route.
- Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G required
- Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required upon selection
- Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post specifications — minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 litres) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground
- Automobile liability insurance for the use of your personal vehicle, with notification to your insurer regarding employment with Canada Post
- Experience making deliveries or operating a motor vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions is an asset
- Ability to pass an interview as part of the selection process
- Applicants residing within 75 km of the Lion’s Head Post Office are preferred
