Google’s Hardware Operations team is hiring a Data Center Technician (English, French) based in Montreal, Quebec. This hands-on technical role sits at the heart of the physical infrastructure that powers Google’s products and services — from search to cloud — and is a rare chance to work with some of the most advanced computing technology in the world.

About the Role: Data Center Technician

As a Data Center Technician at Google Montreal, you’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of data center hardware — from installation and configuration through to end-of-life disassembly. You’ll work across servers, networking equipment, and physical infrastructure, applying your technical knowledge to keep Google’s systems secure and operational. The role involves working within a team on larger installations while also handling day-to-day maintenance and repair tasks with a degree of independence.

This position requires a valid Reliability Status security clearance from the Government of Canada (or the ability to obtain one). It is a condition of employment, and the appropriate clearance level must be maintained throughout your tenure. You’ll also need to be fully fluent in both English and French to support client relationship management in this region. The role involves non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.

Responsibilities

Working within Google’s Technical Infrastructure team, you’ll handle a broad range of technical and operational tasks across the data centre environment. These responsibilities require both physical stamina and sharp diagnostic thinking — a combination that keeps Google’s infrastructure performing at its best.

• Deploy and operate new data centre infrastructure across projects and functions
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure, applying available resources to resolve identified problems
• Maintain data security by tracking various forms of media and checking for standard data security issues in accordance with Google security standards
• Disassemble end-of-life equipment via part replacement or maintenance in a collaborative team setting
• Repair and perform preventative maintenance on servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues with defined solutions
• Install and configure complex components including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols
• Participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and help develop project contingency plans

Requirements / Skills

Google is looking for a technically capable candidate who thrives in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and brings solid hands-on experience with hardware and systems. Bilingual communication skills are essential for this Montreal-based position, as is the ability to obtain a Canadian government security clearance.

• Component-level repair experience — hands-on troubleshooting of technical equipment is a must
• Diagnostic experience in at least one of: operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols
• Physical capability to lift and move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and to exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling
• Availability for non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules
• Fluency in English and French to support client relationship management in this region
• Reliability Status security clearance from the Government of Canada — required to obtain or currently hold prior to start
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience, 2+ years of diagnostic experience, and/or prior data centre or network operations centre experience
