Software Development Manager – Amazon – Vancouver, BC
Location: Vancouver, BC | Company: Amazon
At the heart of Amazon’s retail engine lies the Ordering platform — the technology that powers every customer purchase from cart to delivery to resolution. Amazon is looking for a Software Development Manager to join their eCommerce Services Group (eCS) in Vancouver, BC, helping build the next generation of core ordering systems that serve millions of customers worldwide.
This is a founding leadership role within a team that manages the entire post-click customer journey — from shopping cart and checkout through to order processing, order history, and post-fulfillment actions like refunds. You’ll be working on large-scale distributed systems that demand both deep technical expertise and strong people leadership.
About the Role: Software Development Manager
As an SDM on the Ordering team, you’ll be responsible for building and growing a high-performing engineering organization. You’ll shape the technical direction of the platform, partner with product and program teams, and drive the delivery of capabilities that directly impact Amazon’s customers and business. This role requires someone who can break down complex, abstract problems and develop innovative architectural solutions at scale.
You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, stakeholders, and senior leaders, balancing strategic roadmap ownership with hands-on technical leadership. Whether it’s conducting architecture reviews, resolving root causes of complex system issues, or mentoring engineers, you’ll be expected to lead by example in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment.
